Recent Activity in the side navigation gives you the ability, at a glance, to see what has been recently created or commented on. Specifically:

1. New community post created
2. New comment on an existing community post
3. New KB article created
4. New comment on an existing KB article

It will not list community posts or articles that have been recently edited.
