Hi tom tom, to block all Google domains like YouTube while still allowing access to Google Classroom, you can set up custom policies within DNSFilter. Here’s how:
Step 1: Block Google Domains
- Navigate to the Policies tab in your DNSFilter dashboard.
- Select the policy you want to edit or create a new one.
- Under the Content Filtering section, block the Search Engines and Portals category (this includes Google domains).
- If you want your students to still have some access to Youtube or Google, but would like their content moderated, you can also toggle your SafeSearch settings on for both of these applications. Otherwise, you can add
google.com
andyoutube.com
to your Block List. - Another option is blocking Google in it's entirety by toggling it on under AppAware's Ecosystem Applications.

Step 2: Allow Google Classroom
- In the same policy, go to the Allow List section.
- Add the following Google Classroom domains to the allow list:
classroom.google.com
-
apis.google.com
- There may be other sub-domains that need to be included for the page to fully appear; if for any reason your page is not loading fully, you can inspect it and add the domains outlined under its sources.
Step 3: Test and Confirm
- Apply the policy to your desired networks or users.
- Test access to Google Classroom to ensure it works as expected while other Google domains remain blocked.
