Import the Relay OVA into Proxmox
We’ve seen some requests around using our Relay OVA with Proxmox. Below are the setup steps we’ve tested and documented.
1. Configure Storage for Import
Before importing, make sure your storage is ready to accept OVA files:
- In the Proxmox web interface, go to Datacenter > Storage
- Select the storage you want to use (Directory type, like the default
localstorage, works well) - Click Edit
- Under Content, ensure Import is selected
- Click OK to save
2. Import the Relay OVA into Proxmox
Now you’re ready to bring the Relay OVA into your environment:
- Download the latest Relay OVA file. Both VMware (.ova) and VirtualBox (.ova) images are compatible
- In the Proxmox web interface, navigate to your chosen storage location
- Select the Import tab, then click Upload to add the Relay OVA file you downloaded
- Once uploaded, select the OVA from the list and click Import
- In the import window, check the Advanced box
- Change the SCSI Controller to VirtIO SCSI. ⚠️ Important: The VM may not boot without this setting
- Click Import to create the VM
- After the process finishes, select the new VM and click Start
3. Set Up the Relay
From here, follow the same relay setup steps outlined in our VirtualBox relay setup guide.
