Follow this guide to manage DNS Relay deployments in the DNSFilter dashboard.
The Relays dashboard is where users with admin permissions or higher manage DNS Relay installations, monitor health, and update configuration settings.
The Relays dashboard provides centralized visibility and management for DNS Relay deployments across Sites and Organizations.
The Relays dashboard is located under Deployments in both Standard and MSP accounts.
Install Relay
Select Install Relay to access installation instructions and download options for deploying a new DNS Relay.
Use this option when:
- Downloading the initial Relay Manager
- Deploying Relay at a new Site
- Adding additional Relay instances
Relay summary view
At the top of the dashboard, view high-level Relay health:
- All – Total number of Relays
- Assigned – Relays with an assigned Filtering Policy
- Unassigned – Relays without an assigned Filtering Policy
- Offline – Relays not present on the host
Select any of these status headers to filter the list.
Search and filter Relays
Search bar
Use the search bar to filter by any visible attribute, including:
- Relay Name
- Organization Name
- Version
- Site
Search returns partial and exact matches across the table.
Filters
Select Filters to narrow results by column attributes. Multiple filters can be applied simultaneously.
Remove filters individually using the X or clear all at once.
Relay dashboard columns
The Relays dashboard includes the following columns:
- Relay Name – The assigned name of the Relay
- Friendly Name – The device hostname
- Status – Assigned, Unassigned, or Offline
- Version – Installed Relay version
- Site – The associated Network Site
- Policy/Schedule – Assigned policy or inherited from Site
- Block Page – Assigned block page of inherited from Site
- Tags – Tags associated with the Relay
- OS Name – The OS the Relay is installed on, e.g. Windows 11
- OS Version – The version of the OS the Relay is installed on, e.g. v1.2.3
- First Seen (local time zone) – The date/time the device first registered with the dashboard
- Actions – Edit and management options
Customize the dashboard view
Select Preferences to adjust how data is displayed:
- Show or hide specific columns
- Adjust row density
- Save a custom view to local browser storage
Saved views persist in the current browser. Switching devices or browsers resets to default.
Bulk edit Relays
Select one or more Relays using the checkbox column to enable bulk actions.
Bulk edit options include:
- Move to a different Site
- Update Policy/Schedule
- Update Block Page
- Apply Tags
Changes apply to all selected Relays.
Edit individual Relay settings
Select the pencil icon to edit a single Relay.
Editable fields may include:
- Friendly Name
- Site assignment
- Policy/Schedule
- Block Page
- Tags
Select Save to apply changes.
Delete a Relay
Use the Delete option from the Actions menu to remove a Relay from the dashboard.
Deleting a Relay:
- Removes it from the DNSFilter dashboard
- Does not uninstall the Relay locally
The Relay continues running until uninstalled on the host machine.
Bulk deletion requires confirmation before proceeding.
Refresh
Select Refresh to update the dashboard view. Relay status does not update automatically without a manual or browser refresh.
