Group Computers by Tags
I found something that says you can group computers by tag for assigning policies. But I can't find any information on how to create tags and assign computers. Does anyone have any information on how to do this.

Hi Val Hector, to group computers by tags and assign specific filtering policies in DNSFilter, you'll want to utilize the Roaming Client deployment method.
Steps to Create and Assign Tags Using the Roaming Client:
-
Download the Roaming Client Installer:
- Log in to your DNSFilter dashboard.
- Navigate to Deployments > Roaming Clients.
- Download the appropriate installer for your operating system.
- When installing, you'll have to select the Site that you are associating your devices to which is where you can select the appropriate Policy and Block Page for each group of devices.
-
Install the Roaming Client with Tag Assignment:
- During installation, you can assign tags to the device by using command-line options.
-
For example, on Windows, open Command Prompt and run:
msiexec /qn /i "C:\temp\DNS_Agent_Setup.msi" NKEY="SITESECRETKEY" TAGS="YourTag"
- Replace
"YourTag"
with the desired tag name (e.g.,"Teachers"
or"Students"
). - For multiple tags, separate them with commas:
TAGS="Tag1,Tag2"
.
-
Verify Tag Assignment:
- After installation, return to the DNSFilter dashboard.
- Navigate to Deployments > Roaming Clients.
- Ensure that the device appears with the assigned tags.
- You can then filter by tags in the Manage section by going to the three dots menu ⋮ and selecting More Filters. You can then filter by tags to review Policy assignments and make adjustments as needed.
Additional Considerations
- Bulk Deployment: For large-scale deployments, consider using tools like Active Directory Group Policy or Microsoft Intune to automate the installation process with the appropriate tags.

and for IOS ?

Hi Netka SimplyIT -
I discussed with a few folks here, and they shared with me that it should work the same for iOS, but they're going to validate for us.
This article discusses iOS deployments. [I've asked for the specific XML needed to accomplish.]0 -
One of our team members tested setting the tag as part of the deployment, and unfortunately the platform currently doesn't recognize the tag, so the only option is to manually tag from the roaming client dashboard.
I just validated these steps:- Go to the Roaming Client Management dashboard
- Select all the clients that you want to assign the same tag (check box to the left of the Hostname)
- Select the EDIT button
- Add or update the tag value (it includes a list of existing tags to choose from, too)
- Select the SAVE n CLIENTS button where n = the number of clients being updated
We did file an update request to add the capability to recognize the tags as part of the registration process. I don't have an estimated timeline at this point.
