Sudden connection errors on Remote Clients – Possible ISP or Client changes?
All of sudden we are receiving errors on some remote clients when they try to resolve a couple of our sites. It is related to this article:
https://help.dnsfilter.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500008113241-Connection-failure-error-page
We have never had any issues like this before so wondering if:
A - something changed with the client
B - We may have inadvertently caused this
If it is ISP related [to the home employee] how the heck would you remediate that? What sort of hard coded settings?
The block page we are getting is not our own but a generic one similar to the link above.

Hi Michael Madl, thanks for reaching out! Based on the symptoms you’re describing, there are a couple of factors that might be contributing to the issue. Here are two key areas to check that may help resolve the problem:
1. Check if IPv6 is Enabled
- DNSFilter is not fully compatible with IPv6 at this time, so if IPv6 is enabled on the network adapter, it may be interfering with resolution.
- We recommend disabling IPv6, then:
- Flushing the DNS cache via Terminal
- Clearing your internet browser cache.
- After doing this, test if the issue persists.
2. EDNS Handling by Certain Routers
- Some routers mishandle EDNS (Extension Mechanisms for DNS) queries, which can lead to DNS resolution failures.
- If disabling IPv6 does not resolve the issue, we recommend applying specific EDNS settings that have helped resolve similar problems in the past.
- Here’s a detailed guide from our Help Center on how to adjust these settings for either 🔗 macOS or Windows Roaming Clients.
Next Steps
Once these changes are applied, please check if the issue persists on the affected machine. If this resolves the problem, it’s likely that other affected devices may need the same adjustments to ensure consistency.
Let us know how this goes, and feel free to provide any additional details if the issue continues!
