quick question
i am new to dns filter and couldnt find any information on this. my boss wanted to know if we can control (over and above the applied policy ) what a user can access without installing the agent.

Hi there, Tony Fortunato ! Great question.
To apply user-specific policies and reporting, you'll need to install the DNSFilter Roaming Client (agent) on each user's device. The agent is what enables per-user filtering—without it, DNSFilter can only apply policies at the network, IP, or subnet level, not to individual users.
If you’re looking for user-level control, deploying the Roaming Client is required. Let us know if you’d like any help getting it set up or if you have questions about network-based policy options!

i was hoping i could have accomplished this wby using the sync tool and collection but i guess i dont fully understand their role. still doing my homework and thank you for your response.

No worries; happy to help! Yes, the sync tool and user collections both require the agent to be installed.
