Im new to DNSFilter. Im moving from the Webtitan application and was looking to use the DNS Relay and Roaming Clients together. My environment has alot of Laptops which i want to cover if they leave the network. Also, i want the whole network to be covered. I going with the DNS Relay because it will give me better information, ie user and IP, on what sites they are going to. Im asking if this is recommended or this there a better option.

Welcome to DNSFilter, Michael Opet! Great questions — you’re thinking about this the right way.
Here’s the breakdown:
- DNS Relay is perfect for covering your entire network while devices are onsite. It gives you visibility at the IP or subnet level but doesn’t provide true user-level reporting
- Roaming Clients should be installed on laptops (or any device that leaves your network). These give you per-device and user-level reporting, so you’ll know which user accessed which site, even offsite
👉 If user-level reporting is important to you, the Roaming Client is the only way to get it. The Relay by itself won’t provide that granularity.
So yes — your plan makes sense:
➡️ Deploy DNS Relay for network-wide protection.
➡️ Install Roaming Clients on all laptops to maintain user-level visibility everywhere.
This combo ensures full coverage on- and off-network, with the detailed reporting you’re looking for.
Here's a couple resources you might find helpful along the way, and we're here to help if any new questions come up!
