Welcome to DNSFilter! We're thrilled to help you get started with protecting your network from threats.
Before configuring your DNSFilter setup, we recommend checking your environment for any existing conflicts or settings that can cause issues during the initial installation, especially if deploying our Roaming Client. We know there's no one-size-fits-all deployment, but completing this checkup can help avoid common errors or delays.
Confirm your ISP isn't intercepting DNS traffic. Internet Services Providers can transparent proxy DNS traffic, resulting in failed internet connections and intermittent resolution failure.
Update firewall settings. Update firewall settings to allow EDNS traffic and prevent end-user circumvention.
Review VPN settings. Determine the best configuration for your environment to support uninterrupted internet connectivity.
Review IPv6 configuration. Local DNS servers must be configured to match the IPv6 support level of the deployed Roaming Client version. Windows Agent v2.1.0 and macOS Agent v2.4.0 introduce full IPv6 compatibility.
Review the Local Resolver Support guide to confirm which resolver configurations are supported for your Roaming Client version before making changes.
Cleanup Stale DNS Resolvers. If you're coming from another DNS filtering service, make sure there aren't any stale DNS resolvers in your DHCP or Static network settings. This includes roaming agents that weren't uninstalled. Run this cleanup script to easily remove existing resolvers.
Because our Roaming Client stores previous OS settings, failure to "clean" the environment can result in restoring those stale name servers if/when our agent is not active.
