The Domain Report Tool helps identify how DNSFilter classifies a domain and provides a direct way to report misclassifications. This is critical for resolving access issues, verifying filtering behavior, and ensuring that domains are properly categorized across the network.
Why use the Domain Report Tool?
- Check classification: Confirm the categories and threat status applied to a domain
- Resolve access issues: Identify whether a blocked or inaccessible domain is being mis-categorized
- Report inaccuracies: Submit a re-categorization request
- Verify policies: See if the domain is included on an account’s Allow or Block List
Access the Domain Report Tool
Access the Domain Report Tool from the lower-left corner of the DNSFilter dashboard navigation menu.
Enter a domain name to view:
- Current DNSFilter classification
- Threat categories (if applicable)
- Policy-specific status (Allow or Block)
⚡ Tip: If a domain returns as invalid, remove any extra blank spaces before or after the entry.
Report a Mis-categorized Domain
- Open the Domain Report tool in the dashboard
- Enter the domain
- Select Run Domain Report
- Review the classification details
- Select Report Miscategorization for the inaccurate classification
- (Optional) Add details about the issue or suggest the correct category
- Select Submit
DNSFilter Support reviews requests within 1–3 business days and updates the classification if necessary.
Troubleshooting and Interim Steps
- Immediate access: Add the domain to the Allow List as a temporary solution while waiting for re-categorization
- Verify changes: Once notified of an update, retest access to confirm the classification is correct. Clear DNS cache or browser cache if old results persist
- Permanent resolution: DNSFilter Support will finalize the domain classification and remove the need for the temporary Allow List entry
