This error message occurs when an IP Address is already in use somewhere else in the DNSFilter system, whether that be in another one of your own managed Sites or in another DNSFilter account.
Dynamic IP Address Users Will See Conflicts
DNSFilter only allows each IP address to be used on one account. If you’re on a shared or dynamic IP (like Starlink or most home ISPs), we recommend setting up a DDNS hostname instead—it keeps things consistent even if your IP changes.
Follow these steps to locate the duplicate (or confirm the IP Address is not being used somewhere within your own organization).
Standard account
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, navigate to Deployments and select Sites
- Use the keyboard search command to find the IP Address
- Update the IP Address to resolve the error
If the search doesn't return a result, contact our Support team. Include the IP Address and Site name where the error occurs in the request.
MSP account
- If using the API, perform a GET request to https://api.dnsfilter.com//v1/ip_addresses to return all the IP Addresses associated with the account
- Use the keyboard search command to find the IP Address
- Update the IP Address to resolve the error
If the search doesn't return a result, contact our Support team. Include the IP Address and Site name where the error occurs in the request.
