The DNSFilter Roaming Client version 2.1.0 or higher includes a Service Manager that monitors the agent and automatically restarts it if it stops, unless the Service Manager is also stopped.
This is by design—the Service Manager:
- Monitors the agent service status every 5 seconds
- Restarts the agent if it unexpectedly stops or encounters an issue
- Provides a 30-second grace period before restarting, allowing intentional restarts
This ensures the Roaming Client stays online and maintains network filtering.
Stop the Agent and Service Manager
To stop the Roaming Client for longer than 30 seconds (for maintenance or troubleshooting):
-
Stop the Service Manager
-
Then stop the agent service
If only the agent service is stopped, the Service Manager will automatically restart it after the grace period.
Adjusting restart behavior
Adjust the Service Manager’s check intervals and grace periods by editing the appsettings.json. Modify these settings carefully, as incorrect configurations may affect service stability.
