Use this article when a remote uninstall request is triggered from the DNSFilter dashboard but the Windows Roaming Client remains installed on the device.
This is a known issue that only affects the Windows Roaming Client 3.x series.
Symptoms
Admins may observe the following behavior after initiating a remote uninstall:
- The remote uninstall is triggered from the dashboard
- The Roaming Client remains installed on the device
- The device continues to appear active in the dashboard
- DNS filtering continues on the device
- No error or failure message appears in the dashboard
Cause
This issue can occur if the remote uninstall request is sent while the device is offline or when the Roaming Client services are stopped.
In these situations, the uninstall command may not be delivered to the device. When the device reconnects, the command may no longer be available, which causes the uninstall action to appear ignored.
DNSFilter Engineering is aware of this issue and is currently working on a fix.
Workaround
To complete the uninstall:
- Confirm the device is powered on and connected to the internet
- Confirm the Roaming Client services are running on the device
- Trigger the remote uninstall again from the DNSFilter dashboard
When the device is online and actively checking in, the uninstall request should complete successfully.
