Why your block page might say “blocked by network filtering policy” instead of a category
Hey everyone!
One of our customers recently reached out after noticing their block page didn’t show a specific category like “Streaming” or “Gambling”—instead, it simply said the domain was blocked by network filtering policy.
If you’re seeing this message, here’s what it usually means:
✅ The domain was manually added to the Filtering Policy Block List—not blocked by a category match.
Because of this, the block page won’t reference a specific category, since the action is being taken directly from your policy settings, which take priority over the category block.
🔍 Want to double-check?
Head to your DNSFilter dashboard → Policies → select your policy → look under Block List. If the domain appears there, that’s your answer.
Hope this clears up any confusion! Let us know if you’re seeing unexpected behavior beyond that: submit a Support request with a HAR capture of the block page behavior and our team will look into the issue.
