Use this article to understand the Overview dashboard, which provides a high-level snapshot of organization-wide DNS activity.
The Overview tab is the default view when logging into the app. It displays account-wide activity from the last 7 days and is ideal for a network operations center (NOC) or continuous office display.
Overview dashboard tiles
The Overview tab includes several visual tiles that display real-time DNS activity. Each tile expands to show more details in one click.
Geo activity. Displays a heat map of DNS traffic for the top 100 Sites in the organization, refreshed every 60 seconds. Dot size and color reflect traffic volume—the larger and darker the dot, the higher the traffic.
Total requests. Shows the total number of DNS queries sent, including both allowed and blocked requests.
Allowed requests. Displays the number of allowed DNS queries.
Blocked requests. Displays the number of requests blocked by filtering policies across the organization.
Threats. Shows DNS requests categorized as threats. Requests may be allowed or blocked depending on the assigned policy.
Deployment metrics
The next row of tiles provides high-level counts for dashboard deployments, along with a seven-day activity chart. Click each tile to jump to the deployment's page (MSP Overview leads to the MSP Sites and Roaming Client management dashboards).
Deployments. Active deployments by type—Sites, Roaming Clients, Collections, Users, and Relays.
The Sites and Roaming Client tiles display both active and inactive deployments, displaying the total protected deployments out of the total count in the dashboard.
✍️ For MSP Sites, "Protected" means the Site is assigned a filtering policy only—this total does not reflect network traffic reaching DNSFilter. To confirm traffic is filtered as expected, navigate to the Organization dashboard.
Requests Over Time. Total number of requests over the last seven days by allowed, blocked, and threats in a graph format.
Site and domain activity
The final row displays a top-visited domains list and the organization's Sites (MSPs see a list of sub-organizations from the MSP dashboard).
Domains. Infinite scrolling list of domains ranked by number of requests.
Sites. All account Sites ranked by number of DNS requests. The icon color represents activity in the last 15 minutes; green means they've been active and red have not.
