The Dashboards section is a customizable reporting experience that enables users to choose which widgets appear on the dashboard, arrange widgets, filter the entire view at once, and share views with other users in the Organization. It loads by default when signing in to the DNSFilter dashboard. Each user builds a personal reporting surface and saves it as a named view. Dashboards persist across sessions and Organizations, eliminating the need to rebuild dashboard configurations when switching between Organizations.
For a description of each widget and the data it displays, see Customizable Dashboard widgets.
Manage widgets
Hovering over a widget in the Manage widgets panel displays a preview of the widget on the dashboard.
To add or remove widgets from the dashboard:
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, select Dashboards.
- Select Manage Widgets.
-
On the Manage widgets panel, search for widgets using the search field or browse by category.
If no widgets match the search, a message displays indicating no results were found. Clear the search field to view all available widgets.
-
Select a widget to add it to the dashboard, or select a highlighted widget to remove it.
Click Select all to add all widgets or Clear all to remove all widgets from the dashboard.
- Select Save.
The selected widgets now display on the dashboard. Widgets already on the dashboard retain their position and size when other widgets are added or removed. Newly added widgets are placed in the first available grid slot.
Edit widgets
To reposition, resize, or delete widgets:
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, select Dashboards.
- Select Edit.
- Make the desired changes:
- Select and drag a widget to reposition it on the dashboard.
- Drag the resize handle in the lower-right corner of a widget to resize it.
- Select the delete icon in the upper-right corner of a widget to remove it.
- Select Save.
The layout saves per user and persists between sessions.
Widget behavior
Some widgets display a pulsating green dot indicator. Hovering over the dot displays: "Shows current deployment status, not affected by the time range." Widgets with this indicator include Roaming Clients Protected, Sites Protected, Users, Relays, and Collections.
Most widgets are interactive. Selecting a widget navigates to the corresponding section of the DNSFilter dashboard for more detail. The Geo Activity widget displays a map that supports zoom only and does not navigate on selection.
Filter the dashboard
Filters narrow the data displayed on the dashboard. Not all filters affect all widgets.
Source filters include Organizations, Sites, Roaming Clients / Relays, Users, and Deployment Type.
Traffic filters include Result, which narrows the dashboard to Allowed, Blocked, or Threats.
To apply a filter:
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, select Dashboards.
- Select Filters.
- Configure the filter settings and select Apply.
Widgets that support the selected filter update to reflect the new scope. Widgets that do not support the selected filter are unaffected.
Active filters display in the Active Filters bar above the widget grid. Select Clear to remove all active filters.
The active time range is always visible in the dashboard header, regardless of scroll position or which view is loaded. The label reflects the selected preset (for example, Last 24 Hours, Today, Yesterday, Last 7 Days, or Last 30 Days) and updates immediately when the time range is changed.
Rename a view
Renaming a view updates the dashboard title displayed at the top of the Dashboards section.
To rename a view:
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, select Dashboards.
- Select Actions.
- Select Rename.
- Enter a name in the title field and press Enter.
The Dashboards section now displays the view with the updated name.
Set a personal default
A personal default is the view that loads automatically when navigating to the Dashboards section. Defaults are always personal and opt-in. No admin, Organization, or MSP can set a default on behalf of another user.
To set a personal default:
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, select Dashboards.
- Select Actions.
- Select Set as default.
Opening the Dashboards section now loads the selected view automatically.
Share a view
Selecting Make it public makes a view available for other users in the Organization to adopt. Making a view public does not set it as anyone's default. Each user must adopt a shared view independently.
To make a view public:
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, select Dashboards.
- Select Actions.
- Select Make it public.
Other users in the Organization can now access the view under Dashboards.
