The DNSFilter dashboard Reporting page offers different types of reports to help visualize and evaluate DNS traffic. This data can help determine the need for new security measures or tweaks to current filtering policies.
MSP reporting displays global data from all the organizations in the tenant, displaying the top active organizations based on the total number of requests.
Standard reporting displays data for the organization in the DNSFilter account.
Across Reporting tabs data can be filtered by date range and other report-specific drill downs like Allowed, Blocked, Organization, Users, or Roaming Clients to offer more detail.
Available data filtering options are located across the top of each Reporting tab or display section. Checkout tips on getting the most out of dashboard reporting if you're just getting started or looking to advance your data review process.
Insights
A snapshot of network data while providing the ability to drill into the raw data of a query.
From Insights users can see All threats by domain, which is an easy way to report on how many threat requests have been made on the tenant, who has made those requests, and how to minimize them by making policy adjustments (e.g. more or less restrictive).
MSPs can see high-level activity for all sub-orgs, or drill down to a specific sub-org's activity through the Find Organization search bar. Once in a single sub-org's view, the data can be reviewed at a more granular level (as in the Pro Tip below).
AppAware
Requests associated with applications categorized within AppAware.
From AppAware reporting see a detailed view of application's requests and filter by different attributes to see indicators like top applications based on request or total number of requests per application.
Adjust AppAware policies directly from the Application log by selecting the Take Policy Actions icon next to the application.
Scheduled Reports
Account owners and admins can email users report summaries at scheduled intervals: weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
Scheduled reports create an automated feedback channel helping users stay up to date on DNS activities on their network and have more visibility into how DNSFilter is protecting them from threats and unwanted content.
Data Explorer
View all data associated with the account in customizable formats.
Export data as a .PDF or .CSV file, or share a link to the report with other authorized users in the organization.
Total Requests
The total volume of query traffic in a given time-period. It is useful for seeing which days of the week traffic fluctuates.
Queries Per Second
The volume of traffic in a shorter time period, which is most useful for showing traffic in the last hour or day. See which times of day are the busiest.
Most Active Sites
Most Active Sites–or Most Active Orgs for MSP accounts–shows a pie-chart distribution of query traffic over all Sites/Organizations in a selected time period.
Use this report to monitor Site/Organization traffic.
Top Requests
The most frequently requested domains and domain categories for the account.
Top Requests is valuable to tweak policies: if the report shows a lot of requests for undesirable domains, you may want to adjust accordingly.
Threats
Similar to Top Requests except broken down by threat domains that DNSFilter prevented. MSP accounts find this report useful to show the value of the product to customers.
Alerts
DNSFilter can automatically email you a weekly summary of activity for your organization. Toggle on Enable Weekly Email Threat Reports and enter an email address to receive these emails.
This report is not available for MSP sub-organizations. If you're interested in this feature, vote for it as a feature request.
