This article defines Scheduled Reports and outlines steps to create, edit, and delete Scheduled Reports for Standard and MSP account owners and admins. Admins can also export a preview of this report from the dashboard tab.
Users without owner or admin status for the account will not see the Scheduled Reports option in their DNSFilter dashboard.
Scheduled Reports is a DNSFilter feature that makes it possible for users to receive summaries of DNS reports in their email inbox at scheduled intervals. This interval can be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
Scheduled Reports create an automated feedback channel helping users stay up to date on DNS activities on their network and have greater visibility into how DNSFilter is protecting them from threats and unwanted content.
The report encompasses the last 30 days of traffic regardless of the recurrence schedule, and includes
- Total Requests
- Threats Blocked, a total number and a graph with subtotals for each blocked threat type
- Content Requests Blocked, a total number and a graph with subtotals for each blocked content type
The maximum recipients for a Scheduled Report is [number of dashboard users] + 20. Schedule multiple reports as needed to deliver to more recipients.
MSP Whitelabel Reports
If a custom logo has been uploaded into the MSP organization, the PDF reports will contain the MSP custom logo instead of the DNSFilter logo.
Create a Scheduled Report
Account owners and admins use these steps to create a Scheduled Report.
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, navigate to Reporting and select Scheduled Reports
- Select DNS Protection Summary Report
- Select Recipients
- Choose 1 or both options
- Check the box to send the report to all dashboard users
- Enter individual emails or provide a comma separated list of emails (Limit 20). Select + Add after entering the emails
- Customize each report by MSP Organization (client recipients)
- Option to check the box to send the report to all dashboard users (same as the MSP Users list). These are the MSP's users, not client recipients
- Select Organization(s) to receive a report on their traffic
- Enter individual emails or provide a comma separated list of emails of each Organization's users that will receive the report (Limit 20). Select + Add after entering the emails
- Choose 1 or both options
- Select Continue
- Enter the schedule: select how often the report will send
✍️ The first report will send on the next available scheduled date. E.g. the 1st of the following month (scheduled monthly) or the following Monday (scheduled weekly). This specific date will populate on the Review & Finalize screen
- Customize the report:
- Toggle to include/exclude the Threat Summary
- Toggle to include/exclude the Content Category Summary. If included, select the amount of categories to display in the report
- Select Continue
- Review & Finalize the schedule. Use the Back option to make edits to the report configuration
✍️ This page includes options to preview the report as a downloadable PDF, which contains the same information as the Threat Report email admins can enable via the Reporting dashboard's Alerts tab.
- Select Schedule & Complete to save the report
The new Scheduled Report will now show up on the Your Scheduled Reports list on the Scheduled Reports dashboard.
Edit or delete a Scheduled Report
The most common use case for editing is to add or remove report recipients.
To change or delete a report follow these steps.
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, navigate to Reporting and select Scheduled Reports
- Locate the report under Your Scheduled Reports
✍️ Trying to delete a report but it looks the same as other reports? Edit the report to change the frequency or recipients so it no longer matches others on the list
- Select the options menu under Actions for the report
- Select an action:
- Select Edit to update the report (or view the current report configuration)
- Follow the steps above to make configuration changes. Changes will not update until Schedule & Complete is selected
- Remove recipients by selecting the 'X' next to the email address
- Select Delete to delete the report. A confirmation prompt will appear to proceed with the request
- Select Edit to update the report (or view the current report configuration)
Once confirmed the updates take effect on the next Scheduled Report.
