Follow this guide to manage Roaming Clients in the DNSFilter dashboard.
The Roaming Clients dashboard is where users with admin permissions or higher manage Roaming Client actions:
-
View and edit agent settings
-
Install and manage version updates
-
Uninstall and/or delete old agents
What’s new for MSP admins?
Alongside the new, streamlined Organization Roaming Client management tab, MSP partners can now manage all Organization agents from the top MSP account. This update centralizes agent management, including enhanced search and filtering capabilities to quickly make updates and check on your client’s agent statuses.
The Roaming Clients dashboard is found under Deployments in both standard and MSP accounts.
Install Guide
Select Install Guide to download and install new Roaming Clients. Copy Site Secret Keys from this drawer, which also includes Production and Beta agent download files.
Automatic Mobile Agent Registration
Automatic Registration registers mobile devices automatically if present on a Site registered to the account. This removes the need to enter the SSK for mobile devices manually.
Auto registration has no effect on Windows or macOS Roaming Clients, or the Relay application. It only applies mobile-enabled accounts to support Android and iOS devices.
A couple things to keep in mind before enabling Auto Registration:
-
Connect the device to the Wi-Fi network
-
Make sure the device is connected to the IP address registered to a Site in the DNSFilter dashboard. Otherwise registration can fail with an error message "Your IP address is not authorized"
-
Android users: tap and hold Register Device from the mobile app to automatically register
-
iOS users: just tap Register Device. No hold necessary!
Clean Up
The Clean Up option supports one-step deletion of old Roaming Clients based on the last traffic sent.
This is a helpful step to keep user counts accurate while assessing usage and licensing. See our Community for more Clean Up Tool tips.
MSPs can clean up Roaming Clients across all Organizations or filter to a specific Organization to complete the task from the top MSP account.
Select a time interval to only clean the oldest agents. Once identified, confirm the count and list of agents to delete.
Control Center
Use the Control Center to complete common Roaming Client tasks:
-
Access install download packages. This is the same information found under Install Guide
-
Enable/disable agent version auto updates for the Organization
-
Utilize the Clean Up tool
-
Enable/disable Uninstall Notifications for account admins to assist with troubleshooting instances were end-users uninstall an agent without permission. This feature only applies to Windows and macOC Roaming Clients
Roaming Client Filters
Top-level drill-down
MSP accounts can view all Organizations Roaming Clients in the default page view. Drill down into individual Organizations from three places: the page header, Organization column, or from the Actions menu.
To remove the filter, select the back < icon in the header menu.
Quick Filters
From both a Standard and MSP account, Roaming Clients can be filtered by Status—All, Protected, Unprotected, or Offline agents—as well as Substatus through the drop down menu.
The substatus reflects a more nuanced status of the agent, e.g. an agent’s status could be Active, while the substatus is Uninstall Queued, meaning the Roaming Client is still online but will be uninstalled on the next cycle.
Search bar
Use the search bar to filter for any attribute or string found in the agent list, e.g. a search for 1.15 could return Roaming Clients with 1.15 in the Hostname as well as 1.15 agent versions.
Additional Filters
Drill down into any column attribute with Additional Filters. Add more filters until the data set meets your requirements. Remove all at once with REMOVE ALL or remove individually via the X in the filter menu.
Select a field from the dropdown menu to filter.
Hostname. The computer hostname when the agent was installed.
Friendly Name. Assign a name to the agent.

Customize the dashboard view
Alongside all the filtering options, the Roaming Client dashboard also has several ways to edit how to view the agents according to your preferences.
Column layout menu
Use this quick menu to view the columns that matter most depending on the task at hand:
Default. The preset view set by DNSFilter until another view is saved (more below). After saving changes, the default view updates to the customized settings.
All. Every available data column.
Editable. Highlights editable columns.
Status. Best for troubleshooting agent issues.
Preferences
Refine the dashboard view:
Toggle on/off specific columns. Toggle different columns to show or hide. Columns are searchable, and you can show or hide all options in one click.
✍️ All columns are included in the Roaming Client export: the show/hide options do not alter the export.
The default view includes two pinned columns: Hostname and Actions. Pin any additional column by right-clicking on the column menu. Filter or hide columns from this option as well.
Row density. Select how to view the rows: compact (most dense), standard, or comfortable (least dense).
Save view. All customizations save to local browser storage (if you switch to mobile device or different browser the settings will default). Reset the dashboard view with Use Default.
Export Data. Export a full list of Roaming Clients to your inbox in just one click.
Refresh. Agent data won't update unless you select the browser or in-app refresh option.
Actions menu
The Actions menu is useful to quickly view individual agent information, edit settings, and delete and/or uninstall a Roaming Client.
Pencil icon. Select the pencil icon to view and update all editable fields. Click the disk icon to save changes or the X icon to cancel the edits.
More actions. Use this menu to delete and/or uninstall individual agents, drill down into the agent’s Organization, and jump to Insights reporting on the agent.
Drop down caret. An at-a-glance view of all the agent’s information represented across the dashboard columns.
Complete Bulk Actions by selecting multiple Roaming Clients. Edit multiple agents at once, or delete agents.
🚨 Delete & Uninstall functionality
Across the Actions menu users will notice Delete & Uninstall options. The Uninstall feature is being developed for all Roaming Clients, but is currently only available to users on the Windows Beta version 2.0.1+. Any other agent will only delete from the dashboard.
