Use this article to remove the DNSFilter Roaming Client from a Chromebook.
The full uninstall process requires removing the Chrome extension, the CA Root Certificate, and the DoH settings configured during installation. Complete all applicable sections below based on the original deployment configuration.
Uninstall from a managed Chromebook
The Roaming Client cannot be uninstalled directly from a managed device if it was force-installed via Google Admin. Remove the extension from the Google Admin console to uninstall it across managed devices.
- Sign in to the Google Admin console
- Navigate to Devices and select Chrome
- Select Apps & Extensions
- Locate the DNSFilter Roaming Client extension
- Remove the extension from the applicable organizational unit (OU) or device group
- Select Save
The extension will be removed from managed devices at the next policy refresh. To force an immediate update, sync the device from the Admin console.
Remove the CA Root Certificate
The CA Root Certificate was uploaded during installation to display block pages on managed devices. Remove it to complete the uninstall.
- From the Google Admin console, navigate to Devices and select Networks
- Select the applicable organizational unit (OU)
- Locate the CA Root Certificate section
- Find the uploaded CA Root Certificate and select Delete
- Select Save
Remove DoH settings
DoH settings were configured during installation to ensure DNS traffic was routed through DNSFilter. Remove these settings to revert devices to previous DNS behavior.
- From the Google Admin console, navigate to Devices > Chrome > Settings
- Select the applicable organizational unit (OU)
- Select Users & Browsers
- Search for and select DNS-over-HTTPS
- Set the mode to Disable DNS over HTTPS
- Select Save
Remove the DNS-over-HTTPS template configuration
- From the search results, select DNS-over-HTTPS with identifiers
- Locate the existing template configuration
- Remove the template configuration
- Select Save
DoH settings are now removed and devices revert to previous DNS settings.
