Universal Lists is a feature that lets organizations configure a blanket Allow List or Block list that spans across all Filtering Policies.
Account users with admin permissions or higher can add individual domains to the Universal Lists or upload domains in bulk using a CSV file.
This video was produced in 2022.
The look and feel of our app has changed, but the function of the tool remains the same.
This feature is available for Standard and MSP accounts.
MSP Universal Lists
Sub-organizations do not manage Universal Lists independently. As an MSP, you manage these lists: The Universal Lists are global policies that apply to every sub-org.
Add domains to Universal Lists
Add up to 1,000 domains to either the Allow or Block Universal lists to apply the setting to all current and future Filtering Policies. These list follow the same formatting logic as policy-level Allow and Block lists. Follow these steps to create Universal Lists.
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, navigate to Policies (MSPs Global Policies) and select Universal Lists
- From Add Your Allow List or Add Your Block List, select Create List
- There are two options to upload domains to the list:
-
Add domains manually, separated by a comma
- Select + New
- Add the domain(s)
- Add notes if applicable
- Select + Add to List
-
Upload a .csv file via drag and drop or browse files
- Create a list of up to 1,000 domains to allow/block as a simple text file in a program like Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel, entering one domain per line
- Save the file as .csv
- Select Browse Files to upload the file, or drag and drop the file from your device
- Add a note if applicable. This note will apply to every domain in the file
- Select + Add to List
-
Add domains manually, separated by a comma
- Confirm the domains are present on the list. Use the Actions menu to edit entries or add individual notes, or remove the domain from the list
- Select Create List
The Universal List will populate immediately and it's settings will apply to all Filtering Policies. The Universal Lists tab will now show:
- The total number of domains on the list
- How many open slots remain
- The date and time of the last update
⚠️ Warning: the Delete button on this page deletes the entire Universal List. Use the Edit menu to delete individual entries.
See our troubleshooting articles for assistance if you receive a network error or duplicate entry error message while updating these lists.
Edit Universal Lists
Edit Universal Lists to update notes, add/remove entries, or view the list's domain names. Select Edit to enter the edit view.
Take these actions from the Edit menu:
- Search list contents from the search bar
- Upload more domains manually or via .csv file
- Delete multiple entries at once by checking the box next to the domain name. The option to delete will appear once a box is checked
- Edit domain names and notes or delete an entry from the Actions menu
✍️ The Domain Report Tool and Policy Audit Log do not display information for domains added to Universal Lists.
