Admins use this page to manage DNSFilter billing, including selecting a subscription plan, downloading invoices, updating payment methods, and cancelling an account.
The following actions are available from the Billing page:
- Select or update a subscription plan
- View and download invoices
- Update payment methods and billing details
- Upload tax exemption certificates
- Cancel an account
Accepted payment methods
DNSFilter accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and Diners Club debit and credit cards from customers in every country. ACH, check, wire transfer, and payment terms are available for some accounts—contact DNSFilter Support for details.
Subscription mangement
DNSFilter's standard subscription model is per-user, meaning billing is based on the number of users in the organization with internet access.
Subscription plans are available on monthly or annual billing cycles. The annual billing cycle provides a discount. The billing cycle begins on the date the subscription is saved.
✍️ Selecting a billing plan during a trial period converts the account and begins the billing cycle immediately.
For plan types and pricing details, visit the DNSFilter Pricing page.
Purchase a subscription
Subscriptions must include a User or Guest Wi-Fi count of at least 1 after the trial period ends. Leaving these fields at zero will result in a network error when attempting to save.
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, navigate to Organization and select Billing (MSP providers select MSP)
- From the Plan dropdown, select a plan type and enter the total number of users and Wi-Fi access points
- Select an Annual or Monthly billing term
- Review the calculated Cost
- Select Save
Changes to the subscription take effect immediately. A prorated invoice or credit is generated based on the update and applied automatically to upcoming invoices—no additional action is required.
Update user licenses
Review usage in the DNSFilter dashboard regularly to confirm the subscription reflects the correct number of licenses.
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, navigate to Organization and select Billing (MSP providers select MSP)
- Navigate to Your Subscription
- Update Users or Guest Wi-Fi as needed
- Review the newly calculated Cost
- Select Save
Changes take effect immediately. A prorated invoice or credit is generated based on the update.
Educational organization discounts
Educational pricing is based on the total number of students and staff registered at the institution, including full-time and part-time, regardless of age. A signed letter from an administrative member of the institution on official letterhead confirming enrollment and staff counts is required. Educational pricing is available for K–12 schools and colleges and universities.
View and download invoices
The Invoices tab displays previous invoices, including the invoice amount, payment status, and date paid.
✍️ Changes to a subscription plan generate a new invoice. Prorated invoices or credits are applied automatically to upcoming invoices.
To download or print an invoice:
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, navigate to Organization and select Billing (MSP providers select MSP)
- Select the Invoices tab
- Locate the applicable invoice and select Download
Repeat for each invoice as needed.
Update payment method and billing details
✍️ If an auto-pay payment fails, the billing system notifies the email address on file and automatically reattempts payment. If payment is not completed within 28 days, the invoice is marked as Not Paid and the subscription is cancelled. Uncorrected payment errors may result in loss of internet access.
To add or update a payment method:
- From the DNSFilter dashboard, navigate to Organization and select Billing (MSP providers select MSP)
- Select the Manage tab
- Select Update your billing details
- To add a new card: select Add New, enter the card information, and select Add
- To edit an existing card: select the card, select Edit Payment Method, update the information, and select Update
- Update the billing address and select Update
- Select the X icon to exit the billing details screen
To update the billing address only, select Update your billing details to bypass the payment method prompts.
Cancel account
Warning
Cancelling DNSFilter service stops DNSFilter servers from answering DNS requests on the network. End users will experience this as a loss of internet connectivity. Before cancelling, point all networks to a public resolver such as Cloudflare (1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1) or Google (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) to maintain continuous DNS service.
Self-service account cancellation is available for eligible accounts.
To cancel the account:
From the DNSFilter dashboard, navigate to Organization and select Billing
Select the Manage tab
Select Cancel Account
A prompt will request feedback on DNSFilter services before the cancellation is finalized.
If the Cancel Account option is not available:
MSP accounts: contact your Account Manager or reach the sales team at sales@dnsfilter.com to cancel
Standard accounts: contact your Customer Success Manager or reach the CSM team at success@dnsfilter.com to cancel
