Use this guide to understand DNSFilter subscription pricing. This includes types of licenses and how to report and track usage on your account. For details on features supported on the subscription plans, check out our pricing page.
Per-User license
DNSFilter pricing is based on a per-user license system. The term "user" represents either an actual person or a device (endpoint) using our network.
Calculate Users by what makes the most sense for your organization:
- If there are more devices than people using them, configure your licenses per person. This allows a single individual to use multiple computers with the same account and only be billed for that individual
- If there are more people than devices or you're deploying Roaming Clients, configure your licenses per device instead. This way multiple individuals can use a single licensed device and billing reflects that device's usage
Guest Wi-Fi access point licenses
Some customers require our services for public Wi-Fi. This is ideal for restaurants, salons, churches, etc. that want to provide Wi-Fi services to their customers or members.
These users temporarily use the network when they are within the environment covered by the free Wi-Fi. In this situation, it doesn’t make sense to charge per user as these users are transient.
Thus, Guest Wi-Fi is always charged per access point (AP). Access points are devices that help broadcast and boost Wi-Fi signals for wireless-capable devices to connect. This system creates a consistent pricing model for your account.
A minimum number of access points are required to use this plan.
If your organizations has full-time workers that are constantly using the network, these individuals require user licenses.
Education licenses
Educational licenses are charged per total students and staff. This is the only type of licensing where a yearly subscription is enforced. The student count is based on total enrollment with a minimum required number of licenses.
If educational institutions want to buy a smaller number of licenses, they should subscribe to standard licensing types.
The minimum yearly spend for educational licenses is currently $500/year.
Custom licensing
DNSFilter is aware of scenarios where our standard pricing model may not be a perfect fit. These include:
- Guest Wi-Fi with numerous access points but few users or only used heavily at certain periods (e.g churches on service days)
- Businesses with a substantial amount of endpoints (typically over 500 endpoints)
- MSP discounts
- Legacy customers operating on old pricing models
In these situations, contact our Sales team to discuss a favorable pricing model and work out a plan. Our team can configure the custom model to operate automatically on your account.
